What is divine tides?
I named my blog divine tides because tides are created when the sun, earth, and moon are aligned and the sea is an infinite depth that resembles my mind. The divine aspect comes in when I am seeking knowledge about who I am through self reflection and meditation. I am always thinking and learning new things, so this will be my place to express my thoughts and ideas :)
WHO Are you?
My name is Jahnekque Blake (pronounced ja∙nee∙kwa) and I am 23 years old living in the Toronto area. I declared my major in Religion at McMcaster University, but I also studied Health and Anthropology. I also have a graduate certificate in Workplace Wellness and Health Promotion and plan on furthering my education when the time is right. I am a newly employed Personal Trainer at an all-women’s gym, hoping to become certified and specializing in pilates and pre/post natal training.
Things I love:
- Chico, my Pomeranian
- Peppermint (ice cream, chocolate, tea… anything!)
What do you want to do?
I want to bring a unique and progressive approach to the field of health and wellness and plan to do this by incorporating multiple areas of health into my wellness philosophy.
There is no real job title for what I want to do (yet!) but for now I am fine with dabbling in many different jobs until I have the skills required to do my own thing. I am all about advocating for female communities of visible minorities and promoting resources required for positive behavioural change.
What will make you different?
I aim to provide cultural awareness and a spiritual approach as a means to inform, treat, and prevent illness. I think diversity scares a lot of people because no one wants to look ‘racist’ or feel like they are ‘segregating’ themselves. The reality is different people require different resources and culture/religion play a major role in how people care for themselves. This will be my area of expertise.
this answer is also for the people who always ask me, “what can you do with a religion degree” …yeah, nothing related to being a nun.
HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR FREE TIME?
I spend a lot of my free time writing and designing my blog and reading other blogs! I also volunteer in my community with health and wellness events and I practice yoga.
What is your Mantra?
This above all: to thine own self be true. - William Shakespeare (Hamlet)
